Oral Surgery, Ottawa Dentist

What is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery covers the diagnosis and surgical treatment of injuries, diseases and defects of the soft and hard tissues of the mouth, face, jaws, and teeth.

While we always opt to use the least invasive treatment possible for any given dental problem. This proves difficult in some cases where oral surgery is required.

Dental Implants

In a dental implant, a small titanium screw functions similar to a natural tooth root. Dental implants are placed as part of the process to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. In combination with a tooth replacement such as a crown or bridge, a dental implant looks and feels much like a natural tooth.

Gum Grafts

During a gum graft, gum tissue is removed from the roof of the mouth and transplanted to another area of the gums. A gum graft procedure can help to repair receding gums, protect exposed tooth roots, and reduce any associated symptoms like eventual tooth loss or severe tooth sensitivity, in order to preserve your oral health.

Tooth Extractions

While we always prefer to save a natural tooth, in some cases this is not possible. A tooth may be damaged too extensively by decay, injury, or gum disease and need to be removed by your dentist. Tooth replacement options can include bridges and crowns.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

The final set of molars erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If wisdom teeth cause problems for your oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health. An extraction can also alleviate pain and discomfort.

Bone Grafts

A bone graft is a procedure in which your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, strengthening it so it can support a dental implant

Sinus Lifts

A sinus lift is a type of bone graft in which your dentist adds bone material to your upper back jaw to increase and raise the amount of bone in the sinus area. A dental implant will then be placed.
